Opened in 2006, the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area is found in the Louisiana Plantation Country just west of Baton Rouge. The area covers over 14 parishes, featuring a variety of Cajun cultural sites and excellent things to do.
The area runs from Baton Rouge to Alexandria and back down through Lafayette. Visitors will find plenty of outdoor recreation, culture, history, and must-sees throughout the heritage area. Over 14 tours are offered of the heritage area, including the Cajun Christmas Tour, Historic Downtown Plaquemine, Creole Heritage Tour, and more.
